When things get super hard for me, I rely on some of my more deeper beliefs about reality, which I know don't align with probably a good number of people. But it helps me get through the darkness I am forced to witness. I imagine for those who really believe in, say reductive materialism, may find themselves struggling in an even deeper morass of meaninglessness, but somehow, still are able to find a way to make sense of it all with some kind of rationalization. And kudos to these folks. Anyway, at least most of us here have held on to our humanity and our souls by understanding and judging what we're witnessing is indeed a morally unacceptable horror.
Some of the Glitch in the matrix stories one hears are truly trippy. I'm convinced myself that what we currently know is probably far from what is actually true about reality and consciousness. Where that leads to - I am unsure. But for me that sliver of hope, that as you say, "I have no idea what is true, but I know it's not this" - keeps me going when things get incredibly dark. Cheers.
