China's actions in Xianjing are the same as the Russians in Chechnya - i.e. dealing with what they saw as extremist Muslim terrorism. They dealt harshly, which the USA also does - some might say more harshly. The difference being that in Russia and China the business was their own internal security problem, as opposed to the US action which is war - invasion and destruction - on foreign soil.
