Some of Ritter's takes have been more persuasive than others. I'm pointing out here his remarks that seem to be now corroborated by quotes from UA soldiers that WaPo reports. I think he's been better than most US-based commenters so far. I don't always agree with Caitlin but still find her on the whole worth some of my attention.

But what's more interesting here is why does the WaPo publish this? I assume it is approved of by the WH. So I think it means that we are now supposed to feel that the humane thing is to negotiate an end to the war. In this way it fits a dramatic turn in the mainstream discourse this week. The blob is rearranging the narrative to protect itself now that they see that RF is likely to reach its military goals and the blowback from the economic war is a domestic political disaster.

"approved by the WH", probably not.

approved by Bezos, definitely.

"The Duran" this morning was talking about how stories about Ukraine are disappearing -- especially from the Guardian. So, yeah, the blob.

Every time I see the name "The Guardian", John, I remember the way it benefitted from Mikileaks and then the dump it gave to Julian Assange, contributing largely to his current situation. Not a name I will ever respect again.

I didn't say that the WH approved its publication in the sens of giving explicit permission after review or conversation, though that is of course possible.

"it is approved of by the WH," can also mean that wapo is confident it will not lead to any punishment from the WH in terms of access. In other words, wapo knows the WH is OK with it without having to obtain review approval, which functionally equivalent to knowing without having to ask that it is approved of.

Same with Bezos, ofc.
