I remember being very struck by a Bunraku performance. The bright little puppets acting out their dramas, and the black-clad, dispassionate/compassionate puppeteers putting them through their paces. We're all like that. The drama and delusion continue even when you've caught a glimpse of the enigma behind them. The only difference is that you know it's a show.
