Russia sees the US invading and shelling Syria and making moves towards Iran, both nations are stepping stones to the black sea. If the US attacks anything in the black sea I would not be surprised to see a carrier group attacked. The Russia people see this as a fight for their existence, they are not going to roll over, ever.
