The proximate cause is the attack by Hamas on October 7th, but clearly they already thought that way. Netanyahu's brutal regime is extreme. The attack by Hamas was their excuse to clear Gaza (by any means) of a people whom they clearly despise. And they know that the US has their back.

"Israel had not heard of any attack by HAMAS after it's alleged 2 years of preparation; even though it has infiltrators in all wings of it, AI and IT listening devices everywhere and paid informers (spies) all over the Gaza strip ...... YET 1 day later, they know where every Hamas base is, whether they are allegedly in Hospitals, schools, bunkers, tunnels... amazing how 24 hrs can change things hey ?."
