When you believe that God gave you someone else's land then you are thinking like a priest. Nietzsche says "The worst haters in the world have always been priests." This is exactly what that means.
The worst haters in the world have always been priests? I think that's a highly prejudicial statement on your part. True the church was much more prejudicial in the past, with a sense of their own superiority but that is certainly not true today. You are talking about the Jewish people who felt God gave them the land of Palestine, not priests.
If the OT is supposed to be taken at face value, back in the Bronze Age the “Israelites” the “chosen people” stumbled upon the “promised land” after wandering around (and around, and around) in the desert (the Sinai?) for 40 years - 40 years? - before they came to the “promised land”. The land promised to them by their god. One catch: they had to slaughter and/or enslave every group of people living there in order to possess it. Some god. And this is their bullshit title to the land.
It’s as arrogant, fanciful and horrific a claim as that of the United States with all of its “pious pilgrims”, “Westward ho”, “Remember the Alamo” and “manifest destiny” crap. No wonder the Christo-fascists in the U.S.,support Israel. Same bogus god; same smash and grab history, full of bloodshed, rapine and slaughter. It’s enough to make you sick.
interesting side 'fact'...that 2 Archaeologist who had spent the better part of their professional lives SEARCHING for ANY traces of the 'chosen' who lived in the desert/Sinai for 40 years...and despite decades of searching they found NOT AN IOTA of artifact that demonstrated that perhaps a million people lived there EVER. In their book published in early 2000s they published their findings in a fascinating book called "The Bible Unearthed" by Silberman and Finkelstein /paperback...and really OPENED my eyes long before I read Pappe or Schlaim or Norm Finkelstein..
Here’s an even more interesting fact: there’s not one contemporary reference to the Jews ever being enslaved by the Egyptians. Not one scribe anywhere took down one syllable of hieroglyphics about a huge, enslaved population of “Israelites”.
Egypt being the biggest show in town and the most advanced civilization in the area the Jews undoubtedly came into contact with it and sought to trade there, but the whole story of them being enslaved by the Egyptians for generations sounds like bullshit to me.
And their god. The one god, the only god, the god before all other gods? Most likely that was a takeaway from Akhenaten and his elevation of the solar disc as the only true god.
This vagabond group of desert dwelling nomads took the story of the flood from the Mesopotamians, and their one (angry, vengeful, jealous, racist) God from the Egyptians. Their creation myths and everything else they plagiarized from more advanced societies they came in contact with.
Hebrew is just Aramaic for Semitic, meaning a family of languages and people distantly related by a common ancestry. Aramaic-speaking herders frequently raided the settled lands from Gaza up through Syria and then down to the Persian Gulf through Iraq during the Bronze Age.
The ancient Israelites were very likely those same people who settled in some small cities they had conquered, much like the Vandals settled in Carthage millennia later.
My point is the Vandals came from at least as far as Poland, and the Israelites' ancestors probably wandered around in an area far vaster than just the Sinai in the decades before they found cities too weak to resist them.
Exactly. What's worse is the Zionists come right out and say that the descendants of all those people, who may or may not have believed the propaganda of the time in the first place, are now hypocrites if we do not support Israel's right to displace another people NOW.
It's infuriating bullshit. It makes me want to go to a synagogue and thunder at them like one of their prophets.
Yes, but I'm talking about earlier than that. The Promised Land! Who wrote all that OT stuff activating a Long Game leading to the [Self-] Promised Land??

Oh, I remember that story now, and I totally forgot it. Thanks for the memories.
Back in Bronze Age times, who held the pen when it wrote that G-d said Palestine belonged to Jews?
Palestine was a part of the Ottoman Empire and once it fell during WWI the Zionist and Bafour said it belonged to the Jewish people. very bad mistake.
Yes, but I'm talking about earlier than that. The Promised Land! Who wrote all that OT stuff activating a Long Game leading to the [Self-] Promised Land??
Rabbis.
Or like a crazy person which is probably closer although perhaps still like a priest.
The article is referencing prejudicial positions and you and Yo mismo make very prejudicial and ugly statements of your own.
