Research the Oman Dhofar war of 1976, where the Oman government ruthlessly suppressed a rebellion in the Dhafur region with the military assistance of the Brits !
OK I will look it up I vaguely remember Dhofar war. Oman seems to keep to itself.
However it is very peaceful now and have visited twice. North and South.
South is particularly interesting with many dark skinned Africans selling all sorts of spices.
Frankincense trees which look dead but very much alive.
Beautiful beaches. We could not go further East because of the Yemen endless war.
Went some way into the interior to see a Pottery village. It is now a UNESCO site. Ancient.
This sounds like a tourist brochure.

Liechtenstein's last military engagement was in 1866, they sent 80 men to war. 81 returned, apparently they had made a friend.
