You also seem to believe that calling children "brats" is not the least bit bigoted, indicating that you're likely an American, and yes, that characterization triggers me. The deep bias to be found everywhere in the U.S. against children and teens contributes directly to making childhood and adolescence a minefield. It's also pretty rich when adults express contempt for children since the former enjoy all the rights available to human beings while the latter enjoy none. Your attitude was perhaps understandable decades ago, when little to nothing was understood about children, but most folks today at least try to appear to think of children as deserving of respect (of which calling them "brats" is the opposite).
