"Most regular folks don't need any of it as long as they realize that they should have NO opinion as to what's going on."
Sorry, but that's abdicating one's responsibilities as a citizen. I'm really not understanding why you seem so passionately against my idea that not only we but also "regular folks" should both learn about, and regularly review, bad journalism?
Either you believe in the general principle of democracy (each person has equal moral rights and responsibilities, which has nothing to do with their functional abilities) or you don't. OK, so apparently you don't. But that comes with some very nasty implications and consequences when it gets to late stage societal decay, as now.
"Will I have to trust the experts to perform the brain surgery on me? Definitely yes. "
I guess you haven't seen or known of the sausage-making of doctors. It exists, just as it does for politicians, and it's not confined to post-2020 COVID. "Trust but verify" ALL people you don't know.
*Of course* democracy cannot be implemented in a perfect manner, specifically because of the differences of functional abilities I alluded to, even if no corruption existed at all. The point is that all people need be heard and respected in a reasonable manner (to be negotiated), else you fall down that slippery slope into eventual minority tyranny over majority of slaves (as happened in Western serfdom and most other societies in history).
Respecting the ideal of one person, one vote/voice is a practical way to start. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the practical.
