I'm surprised half of Americans know the answer. I'd have guessed it's even lower.

I agree the press plays a significant role in that, but general human inattention and disinterest are also a part of it. And the variables that impact where we place our attention are enormous - a big discussion on its own.

20 percent of news consumers reading past a headline seems high, as well. I'd like a better source on that.

That said, I wish the press would publish in a way that would put pressure on those who could end this to end this.

Taking apart the press was the 1st goal of PNAC because they knew they couldn’t take over congress if there was an informed electorate. So Murdock and Alles started Fox and Rush Limbaugh was spewed out to “fly over” country which the Clinton democrats forgot about as they scurried to become republicans. Media consolidation took hold with a vengeance after Wiley Willy repealed the Fairness Doctrine and our slide into corporate controlled fascism was underway. And the yuppies loved every minute of it because it fattened their portfolios.
