I can’t see how the Israeli governments were ever serious about a 2 state solution. How can Palestinians accept a solution that does not allow acknowledgment of a Right of Return? They are then the held up by media and politicians as intractable and to blame for the whole disaster. The State of Israel has been backing itself into a corner for years.
Yes it has, but the so-called peace process has tried to achieve the same thing with the connivance of the anti-religious leaders. But that kettling process was for long the boast of the Palestinians’ roadmap to ‘peace’ for a long time.
You need to study the history of the peace plans. And that right of return was specially invoked for the hundreds of thousands of Arabs who immigrated to Palestine in the 20th C, very many of whom came from between 1946 and 1948. This war has been nurtured by the west. It certainly can’t be fixed by the west. .
