I was not planning to watch the debate as well. But while I was perusing the Internet - spending way more time than I ought (as usual) - one of the news sites I visited actually had the debate live. I was surprised, as I was expecting the debate to be exclusively televised. So curiosity got the better of me, and I clicked the link.

This was about 20 minutes in, so I missed the B-Reel gags of Joe Biden's dementia addled responses. But found myself watching more as the debate format suited my tastes rather than in the past when the corporate news anchors acted as if they were part of the debate as well, or you just had one of 10 people talking over each other whenever they could.

Needless to say, I didn't think Genocide Joe did well. But I was surprised just how large the aftershocks were, including diehard loyalists now saying the guy was not all there. Well duh ...

Yeah, I'm not sure how all of it is going to play out. The fools could indeed create an escalation path with no off ramp. As Alex Christoforou from The Duran often says, "They have no reverse gear." You would think some of the billionaires pulling the strings in Washington DC would not want to risk everything they got, including their offspring - over a bunch of lunatics engaging in a futile slaughter fest in Israel or Ukraine. But what do I know?

You are right about the classic "abuser" response. A few weeks back I had the same thought regarding both ongoing wars. What happens when a side that does have the capability to launch any type of nuclear weapon, starts losing? Will they refrain from using their nukes??

Life seems a bit surreal right now. Sometimes I wonder what any of this is about. A random, cruel universe seems incongruous with one's own attempt to find meaning or care about any of it, including one's self.

You watched? My congratulations or commiserations, whichever you choose.

'You would think the billionaires pulling the strings would not want to risk everything they've got, including their offspring'....sure would. Their wealth and the power and privilege that comes from it, depends on a functioning, healthy global economy but if they destroy the economies of other countries they eventually destroy the global system.

I was kind of drawn in, like watching a car wreck. I didn't watch all the way to the end. So give me some credit!
