Some decades ago NPR got a corporatized CEO. Shortly afterwards, a gentleman progressively oriented news man was suddenly fired from his early morning program. Then, later on NPR iniatiated their “non-commercial” commercials regularly chewing up time. Concomitantly, News hosts interviewing “experts and notables” somehow forgot to mention those beacons of truth and wisdom were from the Federalist Society and various right-wing think tanks. And when listening carefully to reportage you came increasingly aware of greater and more frequent sins of omission. So the picture given you was snagged in certain directions like a fun house mirror where you body contorts and stretches in weird exaggerated movements. I was angry about the deceits for a long time and wrote letters. Then, with sadness I simply accepted the consequence of corporatization is purposeful distortion in service of mammon in lieu of service to civic integrity. Always —Inc. in the manner it operates today —-cheapens, fowls, and degrades “right relationship” with anything animate and inanimate. Like someone wise said. You cannot serve both Mammon and God.(mystery, life source, creativity, the great Thou…).
The people you hear on NPR are members of SAG/AFTRA and they just read the scripts they are given as convincingly as they can, as they portray professional journalists they will never be.
You clearly are blinded by some weird abject and irrational fear of the word "communist". I can't think of any country on earth right now that actually fits the definition of communist.
I used to really like NPR but finally recognized that they are just a propaganda tool like cable news but the best at hiding it with their soft tones and over acted stance on social change. I literally can’t tolerate listening to them for more than 10 min. I start to yell at my radio at the stupidity and obvious attempt to push a narrative
I have a friend who wrote her dissertation at home with NPR on in the background. Decades ago. I remember when I too perceived it as a comfort and a bulwark against for-profit news corporations. I was slapped into reality several years ago and now I look back and scratch my head. How could I have been so dumb?!
But you could set your watch by it if you know the line-up of the daily shows! And each show has signature music. And each show has hosts who have been taught to speak “public radio” and they have the correct vocabularies and intonations. It all sounds very different to these elements used on corporate tv—music, vocabulary, intonation, etc. if you’ve ever been stuck in an American airport departure lounge for several hours, it’s almost impossible to avoid!
I'm not really familiar with that side of NPR. I do remember being shocked when an NPR station reporting on the war against Serbia went totally us-against-them jingoistic, as if they were broadcasting from an American Legion post in Indiana. A very small war by modern standards, but I think that was when I realized I couldn't listen to them any more. Before that I had been listening to WNYC, a pre-NPR public radio station.
NPR and PBS are covertly owned and operated by the CPB, which was created as a public non-profit corporation to do the same things in propaganda that the similar Federal Reserve Board was created to do to the nation's currency.
Well, the tongue in cheek name for NPR (i.e. Natiomal 🦍 Pentagon Radio) has a LOT of truth to it, so technically speaking, it is more a part of the 😈 MIC than of the 🐍 MSM.

It amazes me that those around me don't consider NPR to be MSM...
True, AJ. Some years ago both NPR and PBS signed onto a document to refrain from criticizing IsraHell.
They’re nothing but MSM.

Maybe that's because the head of NPR is Netanyahu's first wife
Miriam Weizmann died in 1974.
Just like Hitler committed suicide.
Just like one of his many doubles was made to look like a suicide so no one would track him to Argentina.
All white people look the same to me, so I wouldn't know; maybe she had a sex change before leaving for America and became Nixon's first lady.
They are the only communistic parts of America's mainstream media.
They are also its most copious liars, largely by omission.
They are hardly communistic! Communists have a sense of honor, NPR a has none. They are 110% capitalist approved and supported.
You clearly have never read The Communist Manifesto unless you failed to understand.
110% is impossible.
You clearly are blinded by some weird abject and irrational fear of the word "communist". I can't think of any country on earth right now that actually fits the definition of communist.
In what way is communist China not communistic?
That is because you have never learned what distinguishes communism from any other ism.

They played classical music. That's probably what did it. Pernicious stuff, classical music.
No, it was talk radio. Talk, talk, talk.

Propaganda by Edward Bernays is a book about advertising...

Yes that was their creation, under Johnson I think, but under Bush they became a training ground for the pentagon in narrative control.
Presidents have no control over the CPB because it is non-governmental.
I thought the CIA dictated unallowed content to all media.
What would be unallowed?
Anything that challenges the government’s narrative on necessary military actions, for example.
