Your mom's reaction is classic. I admit to not having studied anarchism adequately, but the two Cs seem to both offer ample pathways to authoritarian endpoints (as does the third C of Christianity). So many societies retain "royalty syndrome"; a king or a queen appears to confer some kind of calm; false peace. I look at the flags of republics like Spain, Serbia, Denmark and several others, which contain royal crests or coats of arms and scratch my head, sometimes wondering if that's some indicator of a deeper authoritarian connection. Any system that moves us away from that tendency is one that I favor.

The problem is not that political science hasn't come up with the answers, the problem is those actual solutions are verboten to the ruling classes.

Take Adam Smith. His capitalism is an equation that requires the workers to own the shares in the company, thus making everyone a 'Capitalist'.

Again and again, the same result pops out, but the PTB simply don't like that answer, so you never hear about it.

One of the main reasons we have Royalty in the stinking British Empire is because it brings in American tourists!
