I agree with you in calling out what happened to Glenn Greenwald, however, there are still worthy writers there, such as Ryan Grim and Jeremy Scahill, just to name a few. This may be one of those few cases where, when throwing out the baby with the bathwater, they kept some of the bathwater that still retained some usefulness.
I don't even bother with The Intercept after Greenwald left. I know they probably still produce some good work, but there are too many good alternatives out there these days than having wade-through it. What next huge story will they try to spike such as what they did to Glenn's? No thanks.
I don't think they fired him, but he left since they refused to publish his article on Biden's laptop, and e-mails. I saw a video clip of him arguing with 2 other prominent reporters at the Intercept, but forgot their names on Russia-gate. He wanted the proof and they were sitting there looking annoyed and shaking their heads, so I never forgave them their lousy reporting.
I'm sorry, but I don't think Ryan Grim is a writer worthy of anything except contempt most of the time. I don't know Scahill well enough to say. OTOH, The Intercept still does sometimes commit journalism, so you're right about that bathwater having some usefulness.
Commit journalism lol! That was good. It's true, you just need to, like everything try and have a critical view point, nothing is gospel & keep your eyes and ears trained that way. Fuck Al Jazeera is about the only MSM telling the Gaza story right.
Agreed and the bath water is lukewarm and caters to a very middle of the road, uncritical audience. People who don’t know that CNN and Wapo are biased trash I suppose need someone to tell them, because they have no critical thinking capacity, but that’s the only good the Intercept does.
As much as I didn't like what the Intercept did to Glenn, it has managed to retain those good independent journalists you mention.
IMHO the Intercept, although funded by a billionaire, isn't such a propaganda rag as the WaPo, NYTimes, CNN, MSNBC and a whole host of others. Imagine that... isn't 'as bad'?
Ryan Grim has risen to the top of what matters in reporting, IMHO.
Joy— but by censoring Greenwald, the Intercept guaranteed that the guard rails were in place and not even their best reporters will step outside those imposed limits. It’s what our national media has been doing for decades and why the Intercept was founded—to counter those limited and biased narratives of the mainstream. They’ve violated their raison d’etre.
I appreciate what you are saying, and agree up to a point. We have to recognize where those barriers are, but also recognize that some who are still there are covering important matters that no one else is. Death penalty issues with Liliana Segura, is one example.
Maybe. But in a way, reading a compromised news site that does sort of a good job is like drinking milk that has been peed in— you can never be quite sure what you’re getting.
I don't agree. Milk, once contaminated is of a whole, completely integrated and dissolved, but the articles are discrete. It's more like something that doesn't dissolve but is in the milk that can be seen and strained out. One is able to scrutinize and use judgment which is not possible with something dissolved in milk, or added to other fungible goods. Not that you shouldn't be careful, but it is better than the NYT, and many others, and if you know where they fall short, basically they are "Democratic party sycophants," they have some good articles and writers on other topics.
I totally don’t agree. It’s a milieux at any media outlet, set and controlled by the editor, not a bunch of little particles that can think what they want to Everyone in the milieux complies, tacitly, knows where the guard rails are and stays well within them. BTW, seen anything lately about how Killary makes money off the prison system in the US?

Not to mention he was the one that founded The Intercept.
I know, I always, always, liked him. Still do.

...but I'd never actually pay for it.

are you kidding me? he has repeatedly pushed lies.
Yes, I have heard of him and am more than wary of his control via his fortune. My theory of billionaires is not a positive one.
Whenever I have just a tiny bit of optimistic hope, my husband repeats what you just replied verbatim.
Excellent!

ryan grim and jeremy scahill are not worthy writers, limited hangouts at best. the intercept is a omidyar operation..
