Education and awareness aren't sufficient. hasn't worked for racism and all the other isms. Self interested solutions sounds logical and rational, but system and our investment in its production aren't logical and rational. The Shadow Knows the Id Rules.

I agree with this more pessimistic view. Beneath the perception that humanity's lack of awareness renders it easily manipulated, misled, and willing to be sold out is the fact that we often choose to avoid awareness of complex, depressing realities -- the climate crisis is a case in point. Awareness -- self-education -- requires sweat, time, and work. Even the best of us must admit to a certain avoidance when it comes to these. Beyond awareness is activism, which is yet more charily wrung from us. The outrage of Twitter remains largely virtual.

Embracing absurdity, pointing out hypocrisy, humor and conundrums may be the only way out of this maze- said the rat to the hamster.

Not so much pessimistic as recognizing that our tactics and strategies must dive beneath the surface to stir the muddy waters. What really motivates people to change their beliefs, if ever, is grappling with the mysteries.
