I never said Palestine was trivial - it is important and major. But it is one issue and it totally contradicts his positions on military and US empire and US role in the world, so I suspect he could be doing it because the Israel lobby is so powerful in the electoral arena (but not necessarily in governing).

For example, many religious fundamentalists with extremely conservative social values voted for Trump based exclusively on abortion, while they ignored the entire character and position of Trump that directly conflicted with their values.
